About Dr. Hecker

Kathryn J. Hecker, M.D., F.A.A.O., is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist.  Dr. Hecker has been serving Greensboro and the surrounding areas since 1997. She received her undergraduate degree in education from Central Michigan University, with a minor in biology, and graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors. She then worked for six years as an elementary school teacher in Texas. After putting herself back in school, she received her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, a highly ranked medical school, where she graduated in the top quarter of her class.  She then completed a year of training in Internal Medicine at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, Connecticut, an affiliate of the New York Presbyterian Healthcare System and a major teaching affiliate of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She then went on to complete her Ophthalmology residency training at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Hecker is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Since her original board certification in 1997, she has maintained the rigorous standards set by the American Board of Ophthalmology for maintenance of board certification. Her training and background experience in the field of education have enhanced her lifelong passion for education and facilitated a natural transition to caring for her patients. She remains committed to providing every patient the best care possible through a team of skilled and compassionate physicians and staff.

Dr. Hecker has over 22 years of experience performing thousands of cataract and lens implant surgeries, as well as extensive experience in evaluation and management of diabetic eye disease, eyelid lesion surgery, and medical and surgical management of glaucoma.
